Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph born on October 22, 1992, in London, England is a rapper, songwriter and producer best known by the stage name 21 Savage. 21 Savage left London and moved to Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 7 with his mother, shortly after the separation of his parents. 21 Savage is also a citizen of the Dominican Republic and Haiti by birth as his parents are original of Dominican and Haitian descent.
Not all kids enjoy going to school and 21 Savage was definitely one of those kids. Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph was found in possession of a gun in Seventh grade and was banned from every school in DeKalb County School District, which made the young Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph attend schools in the metropolitan area of Atlanta before being placed in a youth detention center.
After his release from the detention center, 21 Savage dropped out in his freshman year and joined a local street gang affiliated with the Bloods. 21 Savage went on to become a full-time drug dealer and also engaged in robbery and carjackin’.
He lost his best friend, Johnny on his 21st birthday after being shot six times too by a rival gang, before that 21 Savage had already lost his right-hand man, Larry in 2011 in a shootout and also his brother Quantivayus in an attempted drug deal gone wrong. 21 Savage has two twin sisters Kyra and Jayda Davis, who are dance choreographers and reside in London with their dad.
21 Savage made it to the global stage after the joint release of his EP, Savage Mode with Atalanta based record producer Metro Boomin. The EP which was 23rd on the Billboard Hot 200 became his highest charting EP. 21’s music career was fueled by the death of his friend and the incident which played out on his 21st birthday. He went platinum on his single ‘X‘ which featured Future on the EP.
His first-ever studio album hit number 2 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. ‘Bank Account‘ which was the lead single on the album hit the number 12 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. He featured on Post Malone’s ‘Rockstar‘ which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and became 21’s first song to hit the number one spot.
‘Without Warning‘ a collaborative studio album by 21 Savage, Offset, and Metro Boomin debuted at the number four spot of the US Billboard Hot 200 and its lead single ‘Ric Flair Drip’ peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
On April 18, 2018, 21 Savage had a guest appearance on Young Thug’s ‘Hear No Evil‘ along with fellow Rappers Nicki Minaj and Lil Uzi Vert. On 21st December 2018 21’s studio album, ‘I Am > I‘ Was was released although not without some controversies.
The album which already had some its track leaked before the time of release featured Childish Gambino, Post Malone, J. Cole, Travis Scott, Schoolboy Q, Lil Baby, Gunna and Project Pat. 131,000 album-equivalent units were sold in the US alone and it debuted number one on the US Billboard 200. ‘A Lot‘ which featured, J. Cole was the lead single and peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard 100.
His music has been under scrutiny due to the use of gang words, murder and drugs but 21 seems to tell a life story in every music he releases. 21 Savage is currently signed to Epic Records.
21 Savage has been nominated for various awards like the Grammy Awards for Best Rap Song, Best Record of the Year and Best Rap Album, he has also been nominated for BET Awards for the Best New Artist and Best Collaboration.
21 Savage is currently not in any relationship after breaking up Tv star and model, Amber Rose in May 2018. He practices African traditional religion Ifa, along with his mother.
21 Savage is philanthropist, some of his notable philanthropic acts include; donating $21,000 to his campaign the 21 Savage Bank Account aimed at helping kids learn to save money and also his Issa Back to School Drive, which gave free haircuts, supplies and school uniform in his home neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia. He is currently worth around $12 million dollars, this is according to Wealthy Gorilla.
