So if you are a fan of The Daily Show, then you should be familiar with the name Trevor Noah.
South African stand-up comedian, Trevor Noah was born in the year 1984 in Johannesburg, South Africa to a Xhosa mother, Patricia Nombuyiselo Noah, and a Swiss-German Father. During Apartheid in South Africa, interracial relationships were illegal and attracted both fines and jail terms.
Trevor’s mother, Patricia’s relationship status with his father was highly discriminated against as his mother was considered black and father white, while Trevor Noah himself was considered colored. Trevor attended Maryvale College during his early youth days and completed his primary education at a Catholic school in Johannesburg.
Trevor Noah’s first journey in the entertainment industry came when he got a role in a South African soap opera, Isidingo. After that Trevor went on to his own show, Noah’s Ark on a radio station in Gauteng.
In 2004 up until 2006, Trevor Noah was host to SABC 2’s, Run the Adventure. In 2009, he has hosted the 3rd South Africa Film and Television Awards and also hosted the South Africa Music Awards. Tonight with Trevor Noah was shown for the second time on M-Net. He has performed all over South Africa including the biggest comedy shows like The Black Only Comedy Show and has seen a wide and positive reception by the audience all over South Africa.
On 17th May 2013, Trevor Noah became the first South African to appear on Late Show with David Letterman. You Laugh But It’s True a documentary produced in 2012, which was centered around Trevor Noah. He also performed in the one-man comedy show Trevor Noah: The Racist.
In 2015 when Jon Stewart announced his exit from Comedy Central’s, The Daily Show Trevor Noah was chosen as his replacement. His announcement as replacement for Stewart came with wide criticisms as there were controversies over Trevor Noah’s previous Twitter posts, which included jokes that were considered offensive to women and Jewish people. But Comedy Central stood its ground on the decision to replace Jon Stewart with Trevor Noah and backed the South African comedian during this time.
On September 14, 2017, Comedy Central announced that it has extended Trevor’s contract as host until 2022. The contact also includes Trevor producing and hosting an annual end of the hear specials for Comedy Central.
Trevor Noah launched an international production and distribution company called Day Zero Productions after signing a contract with Viacom that gives first-look rights to any future projects by Trevor.
Trevor has been a recipient of several awards, most notably are; MTV Africa Music Awards Personality of the Year, NAACP Image Awards for his book for Outstanding Literary Work – Debut Author for his book Born a Crime and MTV Movie and TV Awards for the Best Host.
He has also starred in Marvel’s Black Panther and the American Vandal. Some of his stand-up comedy specials include; The Daywalker in 2009, Crazy Normal in 2011, That’s Racist in 2012, and It’s My Culture in 2013.
He is also author to Born a Crime, his autobiography where he recounts his life experience while growing up and the support of his mother, Patricia.
He has been in relationships with South African physiotherapist Dani Gabriel and the American model and singer Jordyn Taylor. He has two stepbrothers Isaac and Andrew Shingange from his mothers’ marriage to Ngisaveni Abel Shingange. Trevor Noah runs the Trevor Noah Foundation a non-profit organization in Johannesburg, that helps orphans and vulnerable youths with necessary life skills, education and social capital necessary to pursue further opportunities. Noah has asked not to be categorized in the U.S political context as either being right or left. Wealthy Gorilla estimates his Net Worth to be around $30 million.
